Using new Oxygen Financial icons in Skrooge

Blog Tags:

I just noticed recently that Nuno, our Oxygen Icons superhero, drawn some icons for KDE financial apps. This is a first result to some work we performed with the other KDE Financial guys during last year's Sprint in Frankfurt. So, first things first, thanks Nuno for working on this :).

These are the icons I could spot that are directly finance related (I may have skipped some)

I used some of them in Skrooge to see how it looks, and here is the result (in the dock on the left):

I might not have used them as the name suggest, as some of them are not directly applicable to Skrooge. For example I used view-incomes-category for budget: we don't need an icon for income categories (but we need one for categories, regardless of income of expenses notions), and the visual seemed to fit quite well with the budget concept. At least, it works for me...

Constructive feedback appreciated :)

(On a side note, you are also looking at the current state of the plasma-based dashboard, that should be available somewhen in the future)

Im doing them acording to a list you guys created...websvn.kde.org/trunk/playground/artwork/Oxygen/docs/kdefinancial-icons.ods

Yes, and thanks again for working on this :)

Good job but, except for currencies and reports, I prefer the previous icons.

I never liked the Units (currencies) icons currently used in skrooge (no offense to Stéphane, who designed it Tongue out) :

For reports, the previous one was already oxygen based. It is true that we could simply use a generic icon representing a graph, but this one is more explicit !

Hi Guillaume,

Why not replacing "Monthly report" icon by view-document... ?

Good idea, will do it !

Hello!

Firstly, as always our icons guru, Nuno rocks!

Second: when we can expect this new dashport to arrive?

And one more thing. We talked about it if I remember correctly in December last year on KDE forum. The conclusion was that you implement a wallet as an account. Do you remember it?

The new dashboard will arrive when it is ready Tongue out. Ok, that's not a really useful answer, I know, but honestly I can't really promise anything at the moment... A few things that are still to be done:

  • Save the dashboard state in the skg file (at the moment, it is saved in the user's home, meaning that it is file independent)
  • Migrate all content from current technology (mostly labels containing html) to plasma native widgets (partly done)
  • Fetch data to be displayed using a plasma dataengine (partly done)
  • Implement configuration interface for each applet (where relevant)
  • Polish

As always, if anyone would like to give a hand, we are more than pleased to welcome them !

As to your question on wallet and account, I had forgot it. May I suggest you open a bug report for this, so that we don't forget this time ? Put a link to our dicussion on the forum, please.

Thanks Smile

Will the plasmoids from the dashboard also be available for the desktop/netbook shell? I.e. I can view my account data without starting scrooge on the desktop.

It's not in our plans at the moment. We might consider it later, but when done for the internal dashboard, most bricks should be there to go to the desktop. We will have to make sure that your data is still secured, though...

The icons are fine and all. But why are their two dashboard categories in the left hand column?

Simply because I took the screenshot from the git version, plasma-dashboard branch, where I am developing the plasma dashboard. To that end, I keep the current dashboard as a reference, implementing the features step by step, and at my very own slow pace Tongue out.

When the plasma dashboard is done, it will replace the "classic" one, you won't have two dashboards available !

Name: mozellecasey
Comapny: vacance tunisie

Not really a comment on the icons, I just realized I haven't thanked the Skrooge makers yet for their superb product! I started using it last month, and it does exactly what I need it to, giving me complete control of my personal economy.

Thanks!

Thats nice, but is it possible to enable the old icons if I want? That would be nice!
